Richards Avenue
On January 18, 1934 an article appeared in the Warrensburg News asking local and out-of-town readers to send in names for the new street that will go from Main Street to the Osborne Bridge. Suggested names as of that date were Smith Street, named for a past supervisor who died tragically in a fire, another was Reoux Street for the current bank president and his son, a leader in the NYS Legislature. Others were Queen Village Avenue for what Warrensburg has been nick named, Emerson Avenue for Albert Emerson who built the first shirt factory and through him a public school was started. More names suggested were Schroon Avenue, Isham Avenue for the family that lived next to a section of the new road, and Richards Avenue, in memory of the Misses Richards who did much for the town, including the Library.
The Town board officially name the street Richards Avenue, in memory of the family who was one of the early families and contributed much to the town.
