When one turns off Route 9 to go into Pack Forest, this spot is perhaps three hundred feet down the road (the coordinates are shown in the insert above).  Off to the right and a few hundred feet into the woods is the site of the 1930s WPA Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp.  One can hike to it on a trail that starts beside the “Pack Forest Lodge,” which is a little farther along on Old Route 9. There’s not much left to see there, but one can ponder the situations and experiences of the many men who enlisted in the program during the Great Depression.
